Meet Others Where They Are

Do you wish that people were different?

Ever find yourself getting annoyed by what someone did or didn’t do?

Have you ever wanted to change that person?

Here’s the truth: Everyone is different.

People want and value different things, depending on the challenges they are facing and their level of experience.

Your job, as a leader, is to recognize and appreciate their differences.

Resist the temptation to compare others to yourself or to someone you wish they were.

Instead, focus on where they are.

Pay attention to the spoken and unspoken language of the person you are interacting with. Authentically try to understand where they are emotionally and physically. Your awareness of what concerns them most holds the key to the unique level of guidance, encouragement, and support they need.
