Should You Take A Break?

The old me didn’t believe in taking breaks. I used to think I was a machine and could work 8-10 hours straight, especially when I had a deadline. When I hit a roadblock, I would convince myself that I just had to power through. Guess what? The task at hand always took longer than I hoped.

I learned the hard way that it’s impossible to produce high-quality work without giving my brain some time to recharge. Today, I no longer consider taking breaks as “wasting time.”

Energy provides the capacity to accomplish more in less time. 

Whether we like it or not, we live in a culture of more, more, more. We’ve been programmed to believe that in order to succeed, we have to work long hours. At times this may be true, but it is not sustainable. If you don’t take the time to refuel your energy, you will eventually burn out and become ineffective.

As busy leaders, we have to establish new self-care habits to recharge our energy. This week, I’m sharing some ideas to get you started. Check out this video:
